Executive Summary
Maine Maritime Academy is committed to maintaining an
environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors that does not adversely
affect their health and safety. Education, research and practical applied
training in science and engineering may involve a variety of hazards in our
laboratories, shops, waterfront training facilities and T.S. State of
Maine. Faculty, administration,
and research/laboratory supervisory personnel are responsible for promoting and
maintaining safe practices and for providing safe equipment and facilities.
Health and safety awareness, education and training will be an ongoing and
mandatory part of the curriculum at Maine Maritime Academy. Regularly scheduled
safety committee meetings will be convened by the Director of Safety and
Security. Safety inspections will be conducted at periodic intervals. The
Academy will maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive Safety Manual at strategic
locations throughout the campus. An informal, as well as formal, complaint
process for health and safety violations, along with principles of progressive
discipline, is included in the Academy’s Environmental Health and Safety
Policy. In summery, it is the policy of Maine Maritime Academy to provide a safe
working, teaching and recreational environment for the entire academic
community. Safety is everybody’s responsibility; therefore, we ask for your
mutual commitment to this organizational goal.

Maine Maritime Academy is committed to maintaining, to the greatest extent possible, an environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors that does not adversely affect their health and safety. It is the responsibility of the college and its employees to ensure that our educational programs and other activities protect and promote the health and safety of our students, our staff, and the environment. Faculty, staff and students must be consistently alert to their personal obligation to take all reasonable precautions, observe safe operating procedures and make the safety of colleagues a workplace priority. How we perform our jobs and our personal perspectives regarding safety and health are critical to the success of an outstanding safety effort. Safety is everybody’s responsibility; therefore, we ask for your mutual commitment to this organizational goal.
