I am very pleased to provide my full endorsement to the attached Maine Maritime Academy Environmental Health and Safety Policy. As I explained in my September 12, 1995 safety letter (attached) that many of you have already received as part of the Academy’s ongoing Hazard Communication Program, the Trustees and I are committed to the principles embodied in and required of a safe workplace and safe work practices.

The Environmental Health and Safety Policy affirms Maine Maritime Academy’s commitment to providing a healthy environment for all members of our academic community. The achievement of this ambitious goal will require the same level of commitment to safety by all faculty, staff and students.

Please take this opportunity to read the attached policy and initiate the action's necessary to guarantee its success. I hope that each of you will continue to support all efforts necessary to make Maine Maritime Academy a safer place for all Academy personnel, students and visitors.
